Genette Genette are members of the civet cat family. There is a population in SW France and Spain but it is difficult to know numbers
since they are so difficult to observe.. This and their nocturnal habits mean these beautiful mammals are most likely to be seen as "road kill". They are excellent climbers and feed on small mammals and birds.
The long ringed tail is quite distinctive.
- Filmed at night in early spring.
- Filmed by the River Nizonne in summer.
- The striped tail is a sign that this "road kill" was once a genette. The measure is 30cm.
- A genette which had just been killed on the road near Nontron. I was cycling at the time and the feet and glasses give some idea of size.
